Recent on-chain metrics point to a renewed surge in interest for meme coins within the Solana blockchain, echoing the frenzy seen last year that propelled SOL's price to nearly $121. Data reveals increased trading volumes and user engagement across various meme coins that emerged in December. Notably, dogwifhat (WIF), a viral favorite, experienced a surge above previous highs following a futures listing and heightened network effects.
Over the past 24 hours, WIF saw an impressive 50% rise, reaching 48 cents before experiencing a slight pullback. Franklin Templeton, a traditional finance firm, contributed to the positive sentiment with an X post late Wednesday, alluding to the tokens' "wif hat" meme. In subsequent tweets, the company's digital assets team expressed being "impressed" by the growth of Solana-based applications in Q4, highlighting Solana as one of the ecosystems they are closely monitoring alongside Bitcoin and Ethereum. The token's memetic value is closely tied to an image of a dog wearing a hat – the "wif hat" usage that has gained popularity within crypto circles.
